Mymensingh: Prof Dr Ali Akbar has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU).
President Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, appointed him for the next four years.
The education ministry issued an order in this regard Sunday afternoon.
Dr Ali Akbar is a professor of the Department of Animal Nutrition of the university.
Born on March 10 in 1952 and son of Md Alauddin Munshi and Sarah Khatun of village Sheolia Bari in Bogra district.
Prof Akbar did his graduation and post-graduation from BAU in 1975 and 1977 from Animal Husbandry Faculty. Later, he joined as a lecturer of Animal Nutrition Department of the faculty in 1977.
He completed his PhD and post-doctoral from University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom and was promoted as a professor in 1993.
Dr Ali Akbar has many publications in national and international journals. He also acted as vice-chancellor (in charge) of BAU from March 14 to March 25 in 2010.
Former dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, he was also the BAU syndicate member, convener of dean council and head of Animal Nutrition Department for three terms.
