7 to die for killing businessman in Gazipur - National

Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Monday awarded death penalty to seven people in a case filed in connection with murder of a businessman in 2011.

The death row convicts are Rajib Hossain Raju, Md Kaiyum, Rajib Hossain, Faruk Hossain, Shafiqul Islam, Ali Hossain and Mohammad Ali.

Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM EnamulHaque handed down the verdict acquitting two accused after examining all the records and witnesses.

The court also sentenced another accused Masud to 5 years imprisonment.

Besides, the court fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.

According to the prosecution, there was anenmity between MilonBhuiyan, son of HabiburRahman in Laxmipura area and the convicts over money.

The convicts obstructed Milon in front of BhawalNational Park on February 26 in 2011 and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. He was taken toa hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Victim’s uncle Akhter Hossain filed a case with Joydebpur Police Station. Later, Police submitted chargesheet against 10 people.
