500 more to take admission in medical colleges - Education

Dhaka: The government has decided to increase the number of students by 500 to 3,818 for admission to state-run medical colleges from the 2018-19 session for the first time in about a decade.

The health ministry took the decision in a meeting on Wednesday, it said in a statement.

At present, there are 3,318 seats for admission in some 31 public medical colleges.

“The ministry has decided to increase 500 seats in the public medical colleges for admission to MBBS course,” said the statement.

The government has taken the decision to ensure quality medical care for the people of the Upazila and unions, considering the increasing population pressure, the standards of the World Health Organisation and existing facilities of public medical colleges, it explained.
