BTRC 'orders' shutdown of - National

Dhaka: In a sudden move, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has 'ordered' the shutdown of the website.

A shutdown notice was emailed to mobile phone and IIG operators.

“As decided by the commission, you are directed to block the following domains at your IIG immediately:,,” the regulator said in the notice.

The order was sent by the BTRC’s Systems & Services Division Senior Assistant Director Touseef Shahriar.

No reason was shown for the order in the notice. The government has not issued a statement either.

But the BTRC’s acting Chairman Jahurul Haque later said the commission issued the notice as ordered by “government high-ups”.

Haque, however, declined to explain the reason for the shutdown “order”.
