Dhaka: A man was killed in what police claimed to be a ‘gunfight’ at Shekher’s place of Khilgaon in the capital early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Billal Hossain, was a member of an inter district robber gang.

Confirming the incident, Khilgaon police zone senior assistant commissioner Nadia Jui said, Billal was accused in ten cases including robbery and he was detained for these cases.

Police conducted a drive in the area along with Billal to detain his accomplices, she added.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, his accomplices started shooting at them prompting police to retaliate triggering a gunfight. Billal was caught in the line of fire.

Later he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Three policemen including Khilgaon thana inspector Jahangir Kabir were wounded in the shooting and they were rushed to Rajarbagh police lines hospital, she said.

Police recovered a shotgun and several rounds of bullets from the spot.
