Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda

Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Tuesday said the Election Commission is yet to decide over Army deployment in the next parliament elections.

The CEC came up with the assertion while talking to BSS.

Earlier in the day, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder reiterated that the Army would be deployed in the next general election.

“I talked to other commissioners and their realization is that the Army should be deployed in the election. I also personally think that there should be army to meet public expectations,” he said.

KM Huda said, “The remark is his personal opinion. The commission is yet to decide in this regard. But, we are discussing in this regard.”

“The Representation of People Order (RPO), Constitution and CRP will have to be amended for inclusion of Army in the definition of law enforcement agencies.”

In this regard, EC secretariat acting secretary Helal Uddin said, “The decision in this regard will be taken after the election schedule is declared.”
