Man killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’ - National

Kushtia: A suspected murderer was killed in what police claimed to be a ‘gunfight’ at Shilaidah Koshba ghat area under Kumarkhali upazila in the district early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Shahin, 30, son of Matiar Rahman of Nurpur village under Sadar upazila. He was accused in killing of expatriate Rakibul.

Kushtia Detective Branch (DB) officer in-charge Sabbirul Alam said, according the information given by Shahin, police conducted a drive to arrest other accused of the murder of Rakibul in the area.

Sensing the presence of police, a group of terrorist started shooting at them prompting police to retaliate triggering a gunfight. After a while when shooting stopped and police recovered injured Shahin from the spot.

Shahin was rushed to Kushtia Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Four police men were also injured in the shooting, he added.

Shahin was the prime accused of Rakibul murder case. Rakibul’s wife and brother paid TK50,000 to Shahin to kill him.

Last Thursday, his hired killer killed Rakibul and dumped the body in the river.

Three days after the murder, police recovered the body from the river.
