Dhaka: Dhaka has welcomed the statement of the UN Security Council that strictly condemned the atrocities committed against the Rohingyas by Myanmar.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali conveyed the gratitude while briefing reporters about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming UN General Assembly visit.

“The statement is strong and timely,” he said. “We welcome the timely statement of the UN Security Council wholeheartedly.”

According to UN estimates, nearly 400,000 Rohingyas have fled into Bangladesh since August following persecution in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.
