Home Ministry split into two divisions - National

Dhaka: The government has decided to split the Home Ministry into two divisions with a view to reducing work pressure.

Two new divisions have been named Public Safety Division and the Internal Security Services Division.

Public Administration Ministry issued a circular to this effect on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Forces, Bangladesh Coastguard and International Crimes Tribunal investigations department will be under the Public Safety Division of the ministry.

Internal Security Services Division will have the jurisdiction of Immigration and Passport Department, Jail Department, Bangladesh Fire Services and Civil Defense, Narcotics Control Department and National Telecommunication Monitoring Cell.

A total of 493 officials and staff will perform duty in the two divisions.

Sources at the Secretariat have mentioned that the Health and Family Welfare Ministry might also be divided into Health Services and Health Education divisions.
